ALUMINIUM MACHINING

Uncoated or DLC for Aluminium?

For aluminium, the polished cutting surface, flute space and geometry matter alongside the coating.

Educational technical guide · Values must be confirmed for the actual application

Polished uncoated tools

The ALPINE ALU families use polished, uncoated cutting surfaces and wide flute spaces to support chip evacuation, clean cutting and surface quality in aluminium and non-ferrous materials.

DLC coating

According to the Alpine catalogue, DLC helps reduce material adhesion and support surface quality in aluminium. The DLC families retain a three-flute, wide-flute aluminium geometry.

Do not select by coating name alone

Alloy, operation, chip evacuation, surface requirement, cooling and tool geometry must be considered together. “DLC is always better” and “uncoated is enough for every aluminium alloy” are not universal rules.
